I was so excited when I found out about this! Ralph Fiennes is another of my passions/obsessions. I have seen him several times live on stage and he always blows me away. And I did The Tempest for my A Levels and it is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays. So this is one of my hot tips for the Summer!

Cut and pasted from an email from the Box Office at the Theatre Royal Haymarket:

Don't miss your opportunity to see Ralph Fiennes at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 27 August.

Trevor Nunn directs William Shakespeare's The Tempest as the third production of his electrifying season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Starring Ralph Fiennes as Prospero with Nicholas Lyndhurst as Trinculo.

Almost certainly Shakespeare's last play, The Tempest can lay claim to being the first ever work of magic realism. Marooned and left to die on a remote island, Prospero can command spirits, create apparitions and manipulate the elements. By using his magic, he assembles his enemies to take revenge on them, and in the process awakens in Miranda, his teenage daughter, her first experience of love. The theme of reconciliation gives immense emotional force to Shakespeare's farewell to the stage.

Agreed. It's going to be amazing. Saw Ralph Fiennes, and the young actress who is playing Miranda, on BBC Breakfast this morning. Ralph was promoting both the Tempest and his new film Coriolanus, which looks amazingly powerful. Like so many actors, Ralph seems such a gentle man but is absolutely formidable as an actor in character.

I'd love to see Ralph live on stage in something one day. Annoyingly, can't commit to anything this autumn quite yet! Must pin down the rest of my family's schedules and then see if there's the possibility of another day trip to do a Saturday matinnee. At least I know I'll definitely be able to see Coriolanus, in which Ralph both acts and makes his directorial debut. :-)

Pin down the family schedules!

Now - I promised to post about all my hot tips for films that took my fancy at the Empire Big Screen. I will do so this weekend. Coriolanus was on my list - you have beaten me to it! And yes the clips I saw of it looked mind-blowing.
