Sherlock Holmes Statue, Baker Street Station
Raks New Profile Pic Square

These are my photos - no use of them is permitted without prior permission.

Another in my series of "bringing London to the non-London based and overseas contingent". So far I have done Speedys, The Sherlock Holmes Pub, and Baker Street Station. I am now moving onto the Sherlock Holmes Statue in London, which is just outside Baker Street Tube Station.

The statue was commissioned by the Sherlock Holmes Society of London.

Dammit, how did I miss this statue when I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum this spring? I must've come out of the tube at a different exit! I have however seen the statue of Russian Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson in Moscow...

Statue

Yes that's me suffering from some severe water retention in the smoky 40 degree heat that was Moscow last August. I not usually quite that chubby!

I can't believe you missed the statue - it is literally just outside Baker Street Tube Station - you come out the station and there it is!

However, your photo of the Russian Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson is priceless as I am never ever going to be able to see them for myself!

It was my teenage ambition to go to Moscow and I will make it there one day - just not sure when!

I used the exit/entrance on Baker Street itself, and didn't know to look round the corner on the Marylebone Road. There used to be a Sherlock Holmes statue in Edinburgh, although it disappeared some years back due to road and tramline laying works. I must see if I can find it again next time I'm 'home' visiting my parents and take a photo of it!

I've been lucky enough to visit Moscow twice. First on an organised two city family holiday (Moscow and Leningrad as it was still called) in 1982. Then last year to stay with one of my Russian LJ friends and to meet another. Total contrast between the strict sombre monumental feel of the place during the Soviet era, and the colourful modern centre of consumerism that the city is today. :-)

wow! great pics! thanks so much for sharing with us!

My pleasure! The Museum is next on my list - as in I have literally tens of photos - I just have to choose the best ones to post!
