From the back of The Holy Rosenbergs programme:

"In its three theatres - the Olivier, the Lyttelton and the Cottesloe - the National Theatre presents an eclectic mix of new plays and classics, with seven or eight productions in repertory at any one time. The National aims constantly to re-energise the great traditions of the British stage and to expand the horizons of audiences and artists alike. It aspires to reflect in its repertoire the diversity of the nation's culture. At its Studio, the National offers a space for research and development for the NT's stages and the theatre as a whole. Through its Discover programme, the National opens up its theatres and its work to new audiences and participants. With an extensive programme of Platform performances, backstage tours, foyer music, exhibitions, and free outdoor entertainment the National recognises that theatre doesn't begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain. And by touring, and through NT Live broadcasts it shares its work with audiences in the UK and abroad."

Saw the set for The Holy Rosenbergs as part of our backstage tour on Saturday. Also witnessed actors limbering up for the Hamlet matinee on the Lyttelton stage, and most exciting of all, the Olivier stage ready for BC to take his place for the Frankenstein matinee, which we attended straight after our tour.

My daughter enjoyed seeing the set preparation area – sets being painted for The Cherry Orchard and One Man, Two Govnors. I was pleased to be able to see a War Horse up close. And of course we both enjoyed seeing Frankenstein again.

Today my son is going on a school trip to see the evening performance... :-)
