I have just come back from the James Blunt gig at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. With profuse and heartfelt apologies to Danny, Benedict and Jonny upfront, I have a good awareness of all the arts and culture on offer in London at the moment, and I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the person fronting the best show this evening was ... James Blunt!!!
James Blunt is here:
He is currently on a world tour, covering the UK, Europe and the World!!!
I went to the gig as someone who liked his music. I left the gig a hard core fan.
He was AMAZING. So what is so special about James Blunt? Take a look at his website. It is an official website that he controls and on it he will put all his material, all his news, all his merchandise, and will blog for his fans. He invests time in developing a 1-2-1 relationship with his fanbase (Benedict and Mark - are you listening?!!!). He was so happy to be on stage - he was like a kid in a candy shop. It is great to be a witness to such joy and exuberance from a performer. Obviously, and this goes without saying, he has an exceptional voice and posseses great musianship. As usual, I had gone on my own, but was immediately befriended and adopted by two major James Blunt fans who effectively let me join them for the evening. I know this is probably unfair, but I do judge celebs by their fanbase and James's fans were exceptional - they were all friendly and welcoming and everyone was there to have a good time. And, he did the sweetest thing. At the end of the gig, HE bought a camera onto the stage and took photos of the audience, because he was so chuffed at the reception he had received. For me, this was the "you had me at hello" moment. My heart melted.
Tickets for his gigs are like gold dust. After being to this gig, I fully understand why. Unlike with theatre, I am not on any special lists and so I take my chances with everyone else. I bought this ticket months ago but still had to trawl upwards of 20 websites to get a ticket that was the correct price (ie not massively inflated). He will be coming to somewhere near you - beg, borrow and steal to get a ticket. Hell, commit armed robbery to get a ticket!!!
As a direct result of his performance tonight, I have signed up to be on his mailing list so I get first warning re upcoming gigs - James Blunt, from now on when you are playing a gig in London, I am going to be there for you in the front row WITH BELLS ON!!!
If anyone wants to come, I am now going to this. It is massively expensive but it is Hampton Court Palace and it will be worth it!
In honour of James Blunt, I have created a special "random" tag for things like this which are bugger all to do with Sherlock but which you just have to tell people about. But if I get too many complaints I will delete this post!!!
