War Horse, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is out on general release across the UK today.

I have not seen it yet, and have no insider information, so I am posting a couple of reviews from sources that I trust:

Instead of going to see this (War Horse) I am going to have to go and see THAT other Sherlock Holmes film tonight (the Guy Ritchie one), in recognition of the fact that Guy has joined the Undershaw Alliance and has formally signed up to supporting our cause. It is not really that much of a burden as I have a sneaking suspicion that I am actually going to enjoy it!

Tom Hiddleston was on BBC Breakfast this morning talking about War Horse. He's another intelligent and articulate actor I'm keeping an eye on... saw him in Kenneth Branagh's Wallander and want to see him in that recent film of the Terence Rattigan play, The Deep Blue Sea.

Definitely going to see War Horse soonish to see him and Benedict in action on horseback, but know that I'll weep buckets! If I can cry at Handsprung Puppets there's no hope of keeping dry-eyed when it all looks entirely real. :-)

But there's a happy ending!

I went to see a preview screening earlier this week and loved it. The horses are the absolute stars, but the people don't do too badly either. Spielberg at his 'tug at the heartstrings' best. Benedict and Tom H really make an impact with the screen time they have. It is the horses film though, and they are spectacular! Take tissues, you will need them.

Why is everyone crying and sobbing their eyes out?

There's a happy ending!

Yes there's a happy ending, but there's all sorts of stuff (happy and sad) that go on before then.

Very true!

War is a nightmare full stop. Any War.
