Happy Valentines Day - Dedicated to those who have loved and lost :(

Being the bitter and twisted old crone that I am (!), I decided not to do a traditional (hearts and flowers) Valentines Day post but a more realistic post. This post is for all the Singles out there spending Valentines Day on their own and I am dedicating it to those who have loved and lost - including me!

One of my favourite music artists is James Blunt. I first went to see James live in concert in February 2011 at the Hammersmith Apollo. In preparation for the live gig, I had ordered his new CD and was sat on a very busy commuter train one morning listening to the album through my headphones. This track - So Far Gone - came on. It destroyed me. I connected so much with the situation that James was describing and was deeply moved by the beauty and poetry of the lyrics which just spoke to me. I broke down. This was a full 5 years after my husband decided to leave me. It shows the power of the lyrics and the song to evoke that reaction in me so many years after the event.

These key lyrics in particular really spoke to me:

So Far Gone, by James Blunt

We tried our best to find us
But there are no lights to guide us
I can't sleep beside a stranger now

Piece by piece we fall apart
With every beat slows down my heart

I've tried hard to remember
This prison cell used to be a shelter
Now we're just looking for the best way out
And I can't fight you anymore
You're already one foot out the door

To everyone spending Valentines Day on their own - including me! - just remember - you are not alone! :)

Valentine's Day Protest vs Russia's anti-LGBT laws, London

Photographer: Rakshita Patel

This afternoon I went to a Valentine's Day Protest in London against the anti-gay and anti-LGBT laws and repression in Russia, overseen by President Putin.

The photo above is the home made placard I took to the protest and the photo below is my best photo from the protest. The protest took place in the midst of a torrential downpour!
