Today (Tuesday 5 February) is the day that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill reaches its second reading in the House of Commons. The key debate and the vote will take place today.

My view on the issue of Equal Marriage has been clear from the start and remains unchanged. I fully support and back Equal Love and Equal Marriage which means that I believe that:
- everyone should be able to marry whom they choose in a civil and/or a religious marriage ceremony (if the religious organisation is willing to conduct the ceremony - they should not be forced to do so), and
- everyone (gay and straight) should also be able to have a civil partnership if that is what they prefer.
That guarantees true equality for all. In a democratic society, everyone should be equal before the law.

This issue is very close to my heart and I will be following the debate very closely today. I hope that right wins through and that we win the vote.

If anyone is unsure about Equal Marriage I would strongly urge them to watch the Out4Marriage Video made by my Director, Peter Tatchell. To me, it remains one of the strongest and most powerful Out4Marriage campaign videos made, and it makes what I consider to be an irrefutable case for equal marriage based on the principle of equality.
