Random fact

Funnily enough, I think that this is the first post to be tagged random!

I found out today that some rough sleepers/homeless in London in 2011 have mobile phones. This was a revelation to me!

Spare ticket for Wednes 20 April 2011 and spare ticket for closing night

A ticket that I had for Wednes 20 April 2011 just became spare - £12 ticket - front stalls and central - Benedict as Creature - one of the best seats in the House.

I have immediately reallocated it to the Swivel Theatre Company because they are the sunshine in my life and, after the production of Othello that they put on, they are by far and away the worthiest recipients of the ticket.

I also have a £12 ticket for closing night that has just become available - again, front stalls and central - Jonny as Creature - one of the best seats in the House. I have offered that ticket to the worthiest recipient of the ticket (she knows who she is!) - I am waiting for her to come back to me (hurry up!) and if she can't use the ticket I will have a rethink as to who to offer it to.

HOT OFF THE PRESS - She has just come back to me - she can't make it - so I will have another think.

Maggie's Night Hike - Friday 16 Spetember 2011

"Beautiful buildings & good friends & hot tea & huge challenge & london at dawn & hope...what will make the London Night Hike special for you?".

I have registered for the 2011 Maggie's London Night Hike. I will be joining up to 3000 people walking the streets of London to help raise money for people affected by cancer. You can register online using the following link:
http://www.maggiescentres.org/eventsfundraising/events/thelondonnighthike.html

I have registered a Team - originally the Team name was Mycrofting. For obvious reasons, I have changed the Team name to Umbrella. We will be doing the 10 mile walk and we will be starting at 20:15pm. It is £30 to register for the walk and you have to commit to raising £200 for Maggies to take part. Join me and be a part of the London Night Hike!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Event Team on 0300 123 1801 or londonnighthike@maggiescentres.org

Walk for Life - Sunday 5th June 2011

Registration for the Walk for Life 2011 is now open. I have registered. Join me if you can!

Cut and pasted from the Walk for Life website:

Follow the Yellow Brick Road.

It may be a myth that London’s streets are paved with gold, but for one special day in June you can help turn them into much needed funds and support for those living with HIV and AIDS.

On June 5th, thousands of like-minded people will take to the streets in an amazing, multi-coloured celebration of life and love, courage and determination. The fight against HIV and AIDS is far from over.

The theme for this year’s Walk is the Wizard of Oz, so feel free to let your imagination run wild! It’s a fantastic day out in the sunshine, and each step our Walkers take brings us closer to our goals of improving lives, encouraging good sexual health and offering direct support to the people who need it most.

This site should give you everything you need to get started. From registering as a Walker, to starting a team and tips on how to run a great sponsorship campaign, we hope that this year’s Walk will be bigger and better than ever.

I’ve just realised that Nick Hytner directed one of my favourite versions of one of my favourite operas, Don Carlos at Covent Garden in 2008, with Rolando Villazon in the title role: http://www.musicweb-international.com/sandh/2008/jan-jun08/carlo0606.htm Not the best of reviews, but article has photos by a familiar name – Catherine Ashmore, who of course more recently photographed Frankenstein. I saw this Don Carlos on television actually, but didn’t record it at the time, so was very pleased to discover that I can now order it on DVD:

Am on a bit of a random opera kick at the moment – saw Opera North's fun, modernised Carmen in Leeds last weekend and am going back to see Fidelio at the end of the month. Prior to this had not see opera live in a theatre since the mid 1980s, when I was a very cheap ticket buying friend of Covent Garden. :-)

Tornadoes are teh suck.

Survived the tornadoes that ripped through NC on Saturday afternoon. Just got power back this morning, but considering we were told not to expect service to be restored until Tuesday night, I feel very fortunate. Even more fortunate that my house is still intact. Several people I know were not so lucky.

Heard that flights out of New York were delayed and cancelled in some cases due to things being so messed up in the Southeast (love that domino effect) and at least one person missed seeing Frankenstein because their flight to London got cancelled. I can't imagine how disappointing that would be. She was saying that she and her husband were going to try to get day tickets for tomorrow's performance.

Now that I have my router back up and running, I can stop relying on the iPad to get online and do some of the work I need to do for the Undershaw benefit!
