The House Of Silk by Anthony Horowitz - Out in shops NOW

Anthony Horowitz launched "The House Of Silk" yesterday (1/1/11) at Waterstones, Piccadilly.

From the back of the book:

"It is a year since Holmes was found dead at his home on the Downs, stretched out and still, that great mind silenced forever. Why do I take up my pen one final time to stir up the memories which might better be forgotten? These adverntures were, in some respects, the most sensational of Sherlock Holmes's career but at the time it was impossible for me to tell them, for reasons that will become abundantly clear.

When I am done, I will have this manuscript packed up and sent to the vaults of Cox and Co. in Charing Cross. I will give instructions that for one hundred years, the packet must not be opened. Perhaps readers of the future will be more inured to scandal and corruption. To them I bequeath one last portrait of Mr Sherlock Holmes and a perspective that has not been seen before ..."

Raks's take

Based purely on the free sampler, I am highly recommending this book!

The sampler contains the Preface and Chapter One (or part of it) - there are 20 pages in all. It is brilliant. The writing - the style and the tone - is 100% true to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Anthony Horowitz breathed life back into my beloved Holmes and Watson. And the whole set-up for the story with Watson visiting Holmes, the two men relaxing and laughing together, and then the entrance of their new mysterious client was classic Conan Doyle. I rarely read Sherlock Holmes stories that are not Conan Doyle authored. I much prefer to stick to my beloved Canon and I would rather re-read one of my old favourites for the umpteenth time than some poor imitation of the real thing. However, I loved this.

It is available on Amazon for £8.54 (free postage and packing). Buy it here:
