Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

I saw the trailer for the new Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes film at the Empire Big Screen for the first time. I hated it. There was too much fighting and I was not impressed with Holmes dressed as a woman. There was very little about Holmes's genius mind and his deductions. And I still cannot get over the fact that Robert Downey Jr looks nothing like the Holmes described in the books or illustrated by Paget. Holmes is meant to be tall, rake thin and with an angular face. Robert Downey Jr fulfills none of these criteria! There was nothing in the trailer about Stephen Fry playing Mycroft either which was a disappointment.

Suffice it to say, much as I love films, I will be giving this one a miss! If truth be told, ever since I saw Benedict's portrayal of Sherlock in Sherlock, there is only one Sherlock Holmes for me and that is Benedict Cumberbatch!

i agree with you. i like Robert Downey Jr, and he really tryed.. but this role.. as Holmes.. its sure not for him.. =X sad, but yeah.. he doesnt look nothing alike.
but its not his fault. they hired him to do the role, and i know he is doing his best. he even did the english accent!

I actually enjoyed the first Sherlock Holmes film. It was fun. But it was not Sherlock Holmes.

Now that I have seen Benedict's version, I simply cannot watch Robert Downey Jr take on the role.

It's not Sherlock Holmes, but I love the RDJr/JL combination for sheer comedic value. This second Guy Ritchie film with the ridiculous cross-dressing disguise reminds me of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in 'Some Like It Hot'. I can't wait to see it in all its silliness! Plus JL is still the hottest Watson ever... ;-)

Ridiculous cross-dressing - I much prefer Sherlock hiding in plain sight.

JL is the hottest Watson yet I admit! And Watson was after all supposed to be a bit of a ladies man. Jude definitely lives up to that!

I reckon it'll be worth watching for Jude Law alone... ;-))

I love RDJ and JL, especially Jude.

They filmed the opening scenes of the first one where I work, so got to see them around the place for several days. Quite an experience.

Yes I know I love Jude too - but that doesn't change the fact that these films are not Sherlock Holmes!

I saw Jude with his children at the Hayward Gallery a few years back, looking at Anthony Gormley's Blind Light exhibition.

He looks VERY more handsome in real life than he does on the screen - quite a feat!
